  • A profound lack of mutual cultural understanding is a problem that divides the Sudanese population. Designer Lucandrea Baraldi and journalist and Human Rights Defender Madeeha propose a travelling street exhibition that captures the popular culture of the different communities and introduces this daily reality to all the various groups involved, building bridges where division used to reign.

  • The importance of understanding

Madeeha’s native Sudan is troubled by continuous interethnic conflict and heavy restrictions on the freedom of expression. People suffering from the same economic and political conditions are unable to join forces because of discrimination and seclusion. As a journalist, Madeeha observes and experiences the reality of this situation first-hand. She works for an organisation that aims to promote freedom of press and expression. Through her work she raises awareness of women’s rights, human rights and good governance.

    On the streets

A group of local volunteers will travel from one community to another to collect everyday objects, such as clothing, as well as the personal or traditional stories attached to them. This material will be presented in a travelling exhibition co-curated by the communities themselves and installed directly in the local streets. The stories will be told in an accessible manner, transcending literacy barriers.
