Design Project Development

Be they client-based or self-initiated, the projects always entail cross-field collaboration, which combines expertise and produces outcomes that are relevant and respond adequately to the multifaceted topics at stake.

In practice, the foundation operates projects at a range of scales, conceived in three movements: strategic pilot, project test phase and implementation. Each of these stages can be realised within separate collaboration agreements, where additional partners could be sought depending on the resources and skills required in the field and execution stages. A typical collaboration with Foundation We Are would begin with an agreement on the common goals, values and ambitions. Eventually, the collaboration would result in a research publication, a communication strategy, tool, and/or campaign, research project, design project, visualisation project, strategic consultation.

Strategic Pilot

A strategic pilot is usually the first stage of a project, which is necessary in order to explore the collaboration possibilities and feasibility in a specific field.

Generally, it is a research & design process, during which the operative designers of the foundation will investigate the possible and potential projects that could be generated from the collaboration. The outcomes of this stage are prototypes, be they visual, material or narrative.

Design elaboration

Drawing on the knowledge and concepts elaborated in the strategic pilot, the designers co-develop context/site-specific projects. 

The goal is to evaluate the ideas’ potentials of impact. During this stage, the designers work within the context and incorporate local society/partners/protagonists in the process. In essence, it is a small-scale trial, which tests the efficiency and impact potential of the project; it has a specific research focus and results in the elaboration of a design. The outcome of this stage is a proof of concept.

Implementation

The third stage of collaboration is the implementation, here the experience and knowledge gathered during the previous phase are scaled up and adjusted.

This roll-out of the co-designed solutions will require the accumulation of resources, training of staff, education of the target community. We Are therefore take a consulting role and will develop nescessary material to ensure flawless implementation.
